America's Moral Clarity for Freedom in Hong Kong
In light of the ongoing protests in Hong Kong, I talked to Johns Hopkins professor and author of The China Boom, Ho-Fung Hung, for a very important discussion on the role America should play in the protests. Due to Hong Kong’s role in the international community, it is important that The West acknowledge their responsibility to stand up for freedom. With Hong Kong’s freedom guaranteed by an international treaty between Britain and China, should it fall, it would open the door for China to breach any other international agreement. In order to protect international interests, America should show some moral clarity and make it clear that we are a beacon of hope and not a supporter of authoritarianism.
