Merry Christmas!
As the father of two young boys, I hope your holiday season is as magical as mine has already been.
While America is currently embroiled in a bitter political battle, I was recently reminded of the Christmas Eve message delivered by Winston Churchill during even more perilous times (1941):
“Let the children have their night of fun and laughter. Let the gifts of Father Christmas delight their play. Let us grown-ups share to the full in their unstinted pleasures before we turn again to the stern task and the formidable years that lie before us, resolved that, by our sacrifice and daring, these same children shall not be robbed of their inheritance or denied their right to live in a free and decent world."
For more on that, stay tuned for my upcoming podcast discussion with historian and author David Pietrusza.
We get into Churchill’s Christmas visit, as well as George Washington’s Christmas-day crossing of the Delaware and the World War I Christmas truce. I hope you enjoy that soon-to-post conversation.
Thank you so much for all you do to support thoughtful, long-form discussions about important and diverse topics.
God bless you and yours--and may your holiday season be full of cheer!!!
